Baroque Songs and Interludes from around Europe
*Lunch from 12pm and concert at 1pm
Founded in 2000 by viola da gambist, Jennifer Eriksson, The Marais Project has a focus on the music of the baroque era with a particular emphasis on the works of our namesake, Marin Marais, a performer and composer at the Court of Louis XIV, the so-called “Sun King.” The early baroque was a time of artistic as well as scientific and philosophical creativity.
Music played a key role in intellectual, family and community life. This performance presents 17th century vocal music from across Europe interspersed with instrumental interludes. We feature songs by two giants of the time, Monteverdi and Purcell, as well as works by lesser known composers such as the Swede, Johan Helmich Roman and Marin Marais.
